Anthology of 20th century violin concertos
The (never) complete site for works with "solo violin and orchestral
formation", composed between 1894 and 2006!
Since 1998 I am researching the wide field of what is here called shortly
violin concertos. That includes all works for solo violin and any kind of orchestral formation, which normally means Violin concertos. But I am also gathering information about Rhapsodies, Fantasies or other kind of works for violin and orchestra. My Anthology includes also works for solo violin and ensemble, as well as works titled Concerto, but with only chamber music instrumentation (for example the Concerto da camera by Arthur Lourie) and at least also Double, Triple, etc concertos with at least one solo violin.
Beside the instrumentation of the works the Anthology also contains just
works composed between 1894 and 2006!
The main goal of my research is to provide complete information of the
following aspects:
- Composers and their oeuvre for violin and orchestra
- Detailed information about the individual work (opus no, duration, year of composition, publisher, etc)
- Description of the composition
- Recording details
As you can see, some of the information I planned to provide isn't already
available, but it will be in the near future. So please be patient and
re-visit my site again.
As a side effect of this research I am trying to build a "world archive" of
recordings of the included works. You can find my updated archive under the
link "recorded works" below.
