What does that mean - database and sound archive?
This is a free of charge and free of advertisement database of works written for at least one solo violin and orchestra. The database is open to the public and provides detailed information about the works to give a complete view on the cornerstones of each piece. The information was retrieved from composers, performers, encyclopaedias, periodicals and music information centre websites as well as recordings (a source not to be underestimated).
Additionally there is an offline sound archive with recordings of around 5000 works. The archive therefore preserves the cultural heritage of this genre and also provides a massive resource for research. This recording library can be used on the location of the archive and is accessible free of charge as well. If you are looking for new repertoire and cannot come personally, we can make suggestions upon your inquiry.
Please notice that every recording listed in this database (always at the very end of each work entry) exists in the corresponding sound archive! In case no recording of a work is in this sound archive the phrase "No recording of the work in this archive" shows up.
Composers and performers are invited to send recordings of listed works to the archive (see imprint for postal or e-mail address).
